Prince Rainier III of Monaco was born Monaco. He ascended to the throne of Monaco at 1949 and remained at his post till his death in 2005. He managed to shift the economy of Monaco, from being almost 95% dependant on gambling to less than 3%.
American doctor, John Harvey Kellogg, was awarded the patent for corn flakes.
American literary figure, Walt Whitman, was born in Long Island, New York. He is considered as one of the most influential American poets in history.
Austrian composer, Joseph Haydn, died at the age of 77. He was one of the leading composers of the Classical period.
