1989 
Cornell University student Robert T. Morris, Jr. was found guilty of releasing what has been known as the Morris worm. He was the first person to be prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and his worm was the first recorded internet worm in the history of the internet.
1984 
American serial killer, Ed Gein, died at the age of 77. He was one of the most notorious serial murderers in United States history, although he was found not guilty by reasons of insanity and was hospitalized for the rest of his life. His grave and tombstone had been the target of constant vandalizing from people acquiring souvenirs.
1973 
British actress, Kate Beckinsale, was born in London, England.
1964 
American actress, Sandra Bullock, was born in Arlington County, Virginia.
1963 
The world's first geosynchronous satellite was launched from the Cape Canaveral launch center.
1963 
A massive earthquake hit Skopje, Yugoslavia resulting in more than 1100 deaths.
1959 
American actor, Kevin Spacey, was born in South Orange, New Jersey. He has won two academy awards, one for best supporting and one for best, actor.
1957 
Guatemalean dictator, Carlos Castillo Armas, was assassinated by one of his palace guards.
1953 
Greek general and politician, Nikolaos Plastiras, died at the age of 70.
1952 
Argentine persona, Eva Peron, died at the age of 33. She was the wife of Argentine President Juan Peron and is most remembered because she was the subject of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical Evita.
1943 
English musician, Mick Jagger, was born in Kent, England.
1928 
American film director, Stanley Kubrick, was born in the Bronx, New York City. He is regarded as the most innovative and influential figure of modern cinema.
1922 
American film director, Blake Edwards, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is most known for his producing of the world famous 'Pink Panther' series of movies which starred the late 'Peter Sellers'.
1894 
English author, Aldous Huxley, was born in Surrey, England. He is considered as one of the most influential writers / philosophers of the 20th century and was widely characterised as the 'Leader of Modern Thought'.
1856 
Irish writer, George Bernard Shaw, was born in Dublin, Ireland. After those of William Shakespeare, his plays are some of the most widely produced in English language theatre.
1847 
Liberia declared its independence. Liberia was founded by black American settlers in 1822 and had been considered an American colony up until its independence.
1788 
New York ratified the United States Constitution and was admitted as the 11th state of the United States.
