Argentinean troops landed on South Georgia Island, sparking the Falklands War between Argentina and England.
1979 
British actor, Richard Beckinsale, died at the age of 31. He died from a massive heart attack at his home. He had become a popular actor after participating in the ever famous BBC sitcom Poridge. He was the father of actress Kate Beckinsale.
1976 
Italian footballer, Alessandro Nesta, was born in Rome.
1962 
Bob Dylan released his first, solo album.
1955 
American actor, Bruce Willis, was born in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany. He became famous from his starring role in the hit TV series, Moonlighting, which aired between 1985 and 1989. he has since become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood history.
1953 
The Motion picture academy awards were televised for the first time.
1947 
American actress, Glenn Close, was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. She has been one of the most successful American film actresses of the 20th and 21st century, having starred in such hit movies as Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction and The Big Chill.
1944 
Palestinian-born assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, was born in Jerusalem. He was convicted of murdering Senator Robert F. Kennedy on June 5, 1968.
1943 
American gangster, Frank Nitti, committed suicide at the age of 59. He is most known as having been the top henchmen of Al Capone and later a mob boss in his own right.
1936 
Swiss actress, Ursula Andress, was born in Berne, Switzerland. She is most remembered for her participation in the first James Bond movie, Dr. No, a role which cast her as the sex symbol of the 1960's.
1915 
The planet Pluto was photographed for the first time, although it was not recognized as a planet at the time.
1900 
French physicist, Frederic Joliot, was born in Paris. He was an assistant to the famed scientist Marie Curie, who later married her daughter Irene Curie. Along with his wife he was the recipient of the 1935 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
1813 
Scottish missionary and explorer, David Livingstone, was born in Blantyre, Scotland. He was one of the greatest explorers in history.
