American actress, Janet Leigh, died at the age of 77. She was best known for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho. She was also the mother of actress Jamie Lee Curtis, from her marriage to her third husband, Tony Curtis. |

English actor, Roddy McDowall, died at the age of 70. He made his first appearance in film at the age of 10 and continued to be a respected and well known actor throughout the rest of his life. |

The trial of former American football superstar, O. J. Simpson, ended with a verdict of not guilty on the chanrge of murder. He had been charged with the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994, in one of the most publicized murder cases in the history of the United States. |

The Battle of Mogadishu takes place when American armed forces attempted to capture officials of the warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid's organization, in Mogadishu, Somalia. As a result 18 US Army Rangers and about 1000 Somalis are killed in one of the worst disasters of modern times for the American Military. |

In 1997 a private video featuring Lee and his wife was stolen and circulated over the internet in the first known such case on the internet. |
