American politician, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. He became the 35th President of the United States and was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on Friday, November 22, 1963. The legacy of both his presidency and his assassination is still a controversial issue in the United States.

Dutch dancer and spy, Mata Hari, was born in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. She was accused of being a spy for Germany during World War I and was found guilty by a French court which sentenced her to death by firing squad. To this day it remains a matter of controversy as to whether or not she was actually a spy or not.

The Ukraine was declared a republic. The republic stood until 1922 when the Ukraine joined the Soviet Union and was reasserted after the fall of the later in 1991.

A French munitions ship collided with another ship in the port of Halifax, Canada, resulting in an explosion that killed almost 2000 people and caused damage kilometres away. It was the largest man-made explosion until the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
