American, George Eastman, registered the trademark Kodak, and at the same time received the patent for his photo camera, the first to use roll film.

American politician, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. was born Boston, Massachusetts. He was a prominent businessman and political figure as well as the father of President John F. Kennedy and Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.

French singer and actor, Maurice Chevalier, was born in Paris, France. He was one of the most popular French entertainers of the 20th century, with a career that spanned over 50 years and two continents.

American-born writer, TS Eliot, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He was one of the most influential poets of the 20th century and in 1948 won the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1927 he was given British citizenship and converted to Anglicanism.

American writer, Eugene O'Neill, was born in Connecticut, USA. He is considered as one of the most influential playwrights of the 20th century and was the recipient of the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize.
November
9th
Mary Jane Kelly was murdered by Jack the Ripper, she was his last known victim.

Russian aircraft designer, Andrei Tupolev, was born in Pustomazovo, Russia. He was one of the foremost aviation pioneers of the 20th century who designed over one hundred different air planes.

Harpo Marx, American comedian was born in New York. He was part of the Marx Brothers group, that marked the stage with its unique comedy style during the first half of the 20th century.
December
23th
Painter, Vincent Van Gogh, cut off the lower part of his left ear. He later presented his cut off ear to a prostitute in a brothel.
