In the year 1859

	February 14th	Oregon was admitted to the Union as the 33rd US state.
	April 25th	Construction of the Suez Canal began.
	May 15th	French physicist, Pierre Curie, was born in Paris. He was a Nobel Prize winner and along with his wife Marie, he is considered as one of the most prominent scientists of the 20th century.
	May 22nd	British physician and writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is most known for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes.
	June 30th	French acrobat, Charles Blondin, crossed Niagara Falls on a tightrope 335m long.
	July 11th	The classic book, A Tale Of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens was published for the first time.
	November 24th	The Origin of Species. by Charles Darwin was first published.
