American writer, Henry David Thoreau, was born in Concord, Massachusetts. He is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential American philosophers of the 19th century. His most famous piece of work is the book, Walden, which is one of the most known books in American literary history.

English novelist, Jane Austen, died at the age of 41. She is widely acknowledged as one of the most important authors of English literature and is most known for the classics, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma.
December
10th
Mississippi became the 20th U.S. state.
