American author, Mark Twain, died at the age of 75. His actual name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, and is one of the most read authors of all time, having written such literary classics as "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". |

American animator, William Hanna, was born in Melrose, New Mexico. Along with Joseph Barbera he was the co-founder of the famous animation studio, Hanna-Barbera. |

British nurse, Florence Nightingale, was born in Florence, Italy. She was named after the city of her birth, and became known as the pioneer of modern nursing when in 1854 she and a staff of 38 nurses were sent to offer their services to the battlefront of the Crimean War. |
