The first ever execution by electrocution of a woman took place. The woman was, Martha Place, who had been found guilty of the murder of her stepdaughter. |

American writer, Ernest Hemingway, was born in Oak Park, Illinois. He is widely acknowledged as one of the top literary figures of the 20th century who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1954. He was suffering from depression and paranoia, which eventually led to his committing suicide. |
