In the year 1881

	February 9th	Russian author, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, died at the age of 59. He was arguably the most influential writer of Russian history, and is considered by many as one of the most important writers of modern times.
	March 12th	Turkish politician, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was born in Selanik (now the Greek city of Thessalonica). He was the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey.
	May 21st	The American Red Cross was established, 5 years after the International Committee of the Red Cross was officially established.
	July 14th	American outlaw, Billy the Kid, died at the age of 21. His real name was Henry McCarty and although he died at a young age his is one of the most recognized names of the American west.
	July 23th	The International Federation of Gymnastics, the world's oldest international sport federation, was founded.
	August 6th	Biologist and pharmacologist, Alexander Fleming, was born in Lochfield, Scotland. He is most known for his discovery of the antibiotic penicillin for which he received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945.
	August 12th	American director, Cecil B. DeMille, was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts. He was one of the most successful directors of the first part of the 20th century. He also directed including Paramount Pictures first movie.
	September 15th	Italian automobile engineer and designer, Ettore Bugatti, was born in Milan, Italy. He founded one of the most prestigious car companies in history. Although he was Italian he had setup his company if France. The factory was destroyed during the Second World War and the company eventually fell into decline. In 1987 an Italian entrepreneur, Romano Artioli, acquired the Bugatti name, but the company closed in 1995. In 1998 automotive giant Volkswagen AG purchased the rights to produce cars under the Bugatti brand name.
	October 1st	American engineer, William Boeing, was born in Detroit, USA. He was an aviation pioneer and the founder of The Boeing Company.
	October 25th	Spanish painter and sculptor, Pablo Picasso, was born in Malaga, Spain. He is probably the most recognized name of 20th century art.
