In the year 1873

	January 7th	Hungarian entrepreneur, Adolph Zukor, was born in Risce, Hungary. He emigrated to the United states in 1889, where he founded the Paramount Pictures Studios.
	January 12th	Greek athlete, Spiridon Louis, was born in Marousi, Athens. He was the winner of the first modern-day Marathon at the 1896 Athens Summer Olympics.
	February 19th	Bulgarian revolutionary, Vasil Levski, was executed at the age of 35. He is one of Bulgaria's greatest national heroes, who led the revolution of Bulgaria against Ottoman rule.
	February 25th	Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, was born in Naples. He was one of the most famous (if not the most famous) tenors in the history of opera.
	March 20th	Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff, was born in Semyonovo. He is regarded as one of the most influential pianists and piano composers of the twentieth century, whose music was banned in the Soviet Union for many years.

	May 1st	Scottish missionary and explorer, David Livingstone, died at the age of 60 in Tanzania, Africa. He was one of the greatest explorers in history.
	May 20th	Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis received a US patent for blue jeans with copper rivets.
	December 24th	American, Johns Hopkins, died at the age of 78. He was an important philanthropist and businessman as well as the founder of the highly prestigious, Johns Hopkins University.
