In the year 1871

	March 5th	German revolutionary, Rosa Luxemburg, was born in Zamosc, Poland. She was one of the foremost communist activists and theorists of early 20th century.
	March 29th	The Royal Albert Hall was opened in South Kensington, London. It was named and dedicated after Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert.
	May 4th	The first professional baseball season got underway in the USA.
	July 10th	French writer, Marcel Proust, was born in Auteuil. He is considered as one of the most influential 19th and 20th century fiction writers.
	October 9th	The Great Chicago Fire was brought under control. It was one of the biggest disasters in the history of the United States during the 19th century in which several hundred people died and most of the city was destroyed.
