In the year 1824

	May 10th	The London National Gallery opens to the public for the first time.
	June 26th	Irish physicist, William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), was born in Belfast. He is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest contributors to modern day physics. He did extensive work in the fields of electricity and thermodynamics and was one of the pioneers in the development of the telegraph.
	August 15th	The country of Liberia was formed in the African continent by a group of Freed American slaves.
