Scottish missionary and explorer, David Livingstone, was born in Blantyre, Scotland. He was one of the greatest explorers in history.

German composer, Richard Wagner, was born in Leipzig, Germany.
August
27th
Napoleon defeated the combined army of the Austria, Russia and Prussia at the Battle of Dresden. Napoleon's army was outnumbered at a ration of almost 2 to 1.

Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi, was born in the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza (Present day Parma, Italy). He is considered by many as the most influential composer of the 19th century's Italian School of Opera.

19th
The Battle of Leipzig ended in which Napoleon Bonaparte suffered one of his worst defeats. It was the largest battle to take place in Europe before World War 1.
