	January 30th	Austrian automotive engineer, Ferdinand Porsche, died at the age of 75. He is is best remembered for his design of the original Volkswagen Beetle and for his contributions to advanced German tank design. He also founded the sports car manufacturing company with the same name.
	January 30th	British musician, Phil Collins, was born in London. He was one of the most popular musicians of the 1980's with a hugely successful carreer both as a solo artist and as a member of the group Genesis.
	February 14th	British footballer, Kevin Keegan, was born in Armthorpe. He is considered as one of the greatest British footballers of all time.
	February 15th	British actress, Jane Seymour, was born in Hayes.
	February 25th	The first Pan American Games opened in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
	March 4th	Scottish footballer, Kenny Dalglish, was born in Glasgow. He was one of the most famous footballers of the 1970s and 1980's.
	March 4th	British singer, Chris Rea, was born in Middlesbrough.
	March 6th	Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were brought to trial in the United States. The couple was eventually convicted and then executed for supplying, nuclear weapons secrets, to the Soviet Union.
	March 12th	The comic strip, Dennis the Menace, made its appearance in newspapers across the USA for the first time.
	March 14th	During the course of the Korean War, United Nations troops recapture Seoul.
	March 17th	American actor, Kurt Russell, was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. He became famous as playing mostly the anti-hero in such blockbuster successes as Escape from New York, The thing and Big Trouble in Little China. He is also known for his long time relationship with fellow actress Goldie Hawn.
	March 29th	Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were convicted of espionage in the United States of America. They were accused of passing nuclear secrets over to the Soviet Union.
	April 10th	American actor and martial artist, Steven Seagal, was born in Lansing, Michigan.
	May 23th	Russian chess grandmaster, Anatoly Karpov, was born in Zlatoust, Soviet Union. We was world champion in chess for ten years, before loosing to Garry Kasparov.
	June 8th	British musician, Bonnie Tyler, was born in Skewen, Wales. She was a popular singer of the late 1970's and 1980's. She is most known for her hit song, Total Eclipse of the Heart.
	June 29th	Joseph Ratzinger, the current Pope Benedict XVI, was ordained as a priest.
	July 6th	Australian actor, Geoffrey Rush, was born in Toowoomba, Queensland. His debut was in the Australian film Hoodwink in 1981, however he did not achieve fame until 1996 when he starred in the critically acclaimed movie, Shine. From that point on, his career exploded into stardom.
	July 8th	American actress, Anjelica Huston, was born in Santa Monica, California. While she has starred in numerous highly successful and critically acclaimed movies, she is most known for her role as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family movies. She is also known for her long time relationship with Jack Nicholson from 1973 to 1989.
	July 15th	Professional wrestler and politician, Jesse Ventura, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a star of professional wrestling in the United States who was later elected Governor of the state of Minnesota.
	July 20th	King Abdullah I of Jordan was assassinated, by a Palestinian terrorist, while he was attending Friday prayers in Jerusalem.
	July 21st	American actor, Robin Williams, was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began his career as a stand-up comic, performing for tips in various San Francisco clubs.
	July 31st	Japan Airlines was founded.
	August 19th	British musician, John Deacon, was born in Leicester. He is most known as the bassist for the rock band Queen.
	September 1st	The United States, Australia and New Zealand signed a mutual defence treaty. While the 3 countries had fought alongside each other on several occasions, the treaty was invoked for the first time ever after the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States. The treaty was invoked by Australia.
	September 2nd	American actor, Mark Harmon, was born in Burbank, California.
	September 5th	American actor, Michael Keaton, was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. He achieved stardom when he was cast to play the role of Batman in Tim Burton's blockbuster movie.
	September 24th	Spanish movie director, Pedro Almodovar, was born in Calzada de Calatrava, Spain. He is considered as one of the top directors of the 20th century and one of the few to have been able to bridge the gap between American and Spanish cinema.
	September 25th	American actor, Mark Hamill, was born in Oakland, California. He is best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy.
	October 5th	American actress, Karen Allen, was born in Southern Illinois, USA. She is best known for her role in the blockbuster movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
	November 24th	Actress Audrey Hepburn performs in Broadway play, Gigi, for the first time. She was a relatively unknown actresses at the time.
	November 26th	Italian actress and politician, Cicciolina, was born in Budapest. She was elected to the Italian parliament in 1987, the first ever performer of hardcore pornography to do so.
	December 11th	Legendary baseball player, Joe DiMaggio, announced his retirement. He is considered as one of baseball's greatest stars whose stardom stranscended the boundaries of the sport. He is also known for his marriage to actress Marilyn Monroe.
	December 24th	Libya gained its independence from Italy. Idris I was proclaimed as King of Libya.
